“Turn to someone you love, look them in the eyes, and say ‘Down with the Patriarchy!'” Alex Luciano (guitar/vocals) and Noah Bowman (drums) makeup New York’s power pop-punk duo Diet Cig who released their second album last month, Swear I’m Good at This. The record features powerful songs about adult anxieties and feminist ideas that empower women and femmes alike to come together in a safe space.

Janelane opened the show with a full band and love from the Los Angeles community as Lisa Prank followed with a one-women show and hilarious banter in support of her new album Adult Teen.

When Diet Cig took the stage, Alex Luciano established that sold out night at the Echo to be a safe space; a place or environment in which a person or category of people can feel confident that they will not be exposed to discrimination, criticism, harassment, or any other emotional or physical harm. She then went on to advise the audience to raise their hand if they are ever feeling uncomfortable during the performance and she will stop the show immediately to address the situation.

Luciano supported blue eyebrows as she danced around stage high kicking. We like to think that she is metaphorically kicking people who don’t support women’s/LGBT rights while defending fans from the patriarchy. Femme empowerment is essential in this day in age, and we believe Diet Cig are a perfect example of kick ass humans who use the stage as a LOUD platform to make sure they are heard.

The band announced that they will be playing another show in Los Angeles on May 7th at Junior High; a charity event where all proceeds will be donated to Rock n’ Roll Camp for Girls LA. Tickets are only $5! Check out pictures from the show below and make sure to catch Diet Cig when they come to your city.
