Good news, everyone! Alice Glass is back with a hypnotic new single and video “Without Love.” Earlier this week, The Growlers revealed Glass as a standout name on the stellar name for their upcoming Growlers Six festival, and now we also have a few more headlining dates, as well as some gigs in support of Marilyn Manson this Rocktober.

Glass departed Crystal Castles back in 2014 and released her debut solo single “STILLBIRTH” the following summer. Released with a powerful note detailing her survival and escape from an emotionally abusive relationship, “STILLBIRTH” obliterated the senses with a fierce aural onslaught.

“Without Love,” in contrast, finds Glass exploring new sonic territory. In place of the distorted electropunk sound associated with Crystal Castles are honeyed synths and likewise sweet vocal melodies with a foreboding dark undercurrent.

Lyrically, “Without Love” brings to mind the aforementioned abuse Glass intimated in 2015. Opening lines “Am I worth it or am I worthless? / And will I ever figure it out?” set the scene for combat against feelings of worthlessness, before a potent catharsis sets in as she sings “How are you going to lie about me now? / I see you watching me from underground” in the chorus. “Without Love” isn’t just a musical delight; it’s a triumph of survival, escape and finding one’s self.

Directed by Floria Sigismondi and co-produced by The FADER and MAAVVEN, the video for “Without Love” finds Glass bound by tendrils in a both a horror flick hotel room and a rusted-out car before she’s enveloped by flowers in an empty swimming pool. Between the surreal imagery and vulnerability showcased in the video, “Without Love” also reveals Glass as an aesthetic force of nature.

When does that solo album drop? We don’t know yet, but we can’t wait to hear it.
