Returning from a lengthy tour in Europe, we finally got to catch up with Cigarettes After Sex in Los Angeles for their two nights at the Teragram Ballroom. At this point, you can pretty much just throw a dart at a random date at Teragram and find one of your new favorite bands because their booking agent really knows whatsup. Cigarettes After Sex have been burning up the scene on a global level though so we’re incredibly excited we got to see them at an intimate show and venue before their big California fest performances.
The ambient pop group, originally from Texas, rose to YouTube stardom shortly after releasing their first EP, I., in 2012 and have been playing shows all over the globe ever since. Known for their soft, slow sound with love-struck lyrics delivered via frontman Greg Gonzalez’s melodic voice, they are a refreshing act not to be missed.
This June, they released their self-titled debut studio album. (I. was recorded in a stairwell at Gonzalez’s alma mater, University of Texas at El Paso!!) The new album features tracks including “Apocalypse”, “K.”, and “Opera House”.
Cigarettes After Sex have a huge international tour in the US, Europe, South America, Asia, and Australia through the end of this year. Be sure to find a date near you to hear the heartfelt serenades for yourself!
The band’s next dates in southern California are both huge festivals. First you have the band playing October 15th at Desert Daze in Joshua Tree and then October 28 at Growlers 6 in San Pedro.
