Last night Crystal Castles put on an intense performance for a sold out the Glasshouse in Pomona. Producer Ethan Kath gave us a taste of some new material and warmed up the crowd to new singer Edith Frances. Seconds before the band walked on, the stage filled with thick smoke and strobes began to captivate as the crowd pushed forward ego to see the duo.

Kath took the stage to a roar of excitement as he got aquatinted behind his neon green synthesizer while Edith slowly crawled on the stage to join him, starting the night with “Concrete”. As the set played on Kath increasingly laid heavier beats and Edith’s vocals harshened. Frances showed relentless energy, darting from one end of the stage to the other, soaking wet and whipping her head left and right.

Crystal Castles showcased a mixture of old tunes from their self titled record, (II), and (III) albums, while still graciously springing in hits from their last release (I). The set concluded with an experimental interlude from Ethan Kath, “Femen”, “Wrath of God”, and “Not In Love”. It’s clear that fans have warmed up to the new Crystal Castles member Edith Frances who no doubt packs one hell of a punch. Crystal Castles will be playing this friday at Coachella in the Sahara Tent, and they are a must see.
