Didn’t score a Coachella ticket? That’s okay, because as is the custom nowadays, Goldenvoice has a massive list of side shows surrounding the two-weekend extravaganza, and it’s a great one. But really, even if you’re going to the big event, a Localchella show or two or three or fourteen is a must. Why? It helps make the inevitable Sophie’s Choice-level scheduling conflicts slightly easier to navigate.
This year’s highlights include real-life superhero St. Vincent melting faces at The Orpheum on April 11, Tyler, the Creator at Shrine Expo Hall on April 11 (speaking of conflicts!), Portugal, the Man with Cherry Glazerr at Fox Theater Pomona on April 12, an Angel Olsen solo show at El Rey on April 17, Japanese Breakfast at the Roxy on April 17 and a rare appearance by Soulwax at The Fonda on April 19. For anyone seeking an out-of-town adventure, Pappy & Harriet’s will host The Drums with Alvvays and Fazerdaze on April 16 and Angel Olsen with Priests on April 18.
