Portugal. The Man has not released an album in three years, which is unexpected because they usually drop an album every year starting from 2006. With the governmental climate right now it is to no surprise that the politically charged group are coming out with a new record.

Titled WOODSTOCK, the idea came to John Gourley, PTM’s lead singer, when he went home to visit his family in Wasilla, Alaska. They already had spent almost every minute since 2013 working on an album called Gloomin + Doomin, but the songs just did not click to Gourley’s expectations. It wasn’t until he found his dad’s old ticket stub from 1969 Woodstock music festival that he realized, in the same tradition of bands from that era, Portugal. The Man needed to speak out about the world crumbling around them. So naturally, they scrapped Gloomin + Doomin, the band went back to the studio—working with John Hill (In The Mountain In The Cloud), Danger Mouse (Evil Friends), Mike D (Everything Cool), and longtime collaborator Casey Bates (The one consistent producer since the first record). In this new-found creative territory, the album that became Woodstock rolled out naturally from there.

Portugal. The Man will celebrate the release of WOODSTOCK with plans for their biggest world tour thus far, set to travel through the summer (see tour dates bellow). In addition, the band will also be performing at a number of upcoming festivals, including Atlanta, GA’s Shaky Knees Music Fest, Houston, TX’s FPSF, Toronto, ON’s Field Trip, and Manchester, TN’s Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival. PTM will also play a special “Shaky Knees Late Night” show in advance of the eagerly awaited festival, set for Saturday, May 13th at Atlanta’s Terminal West. WOODSTOCK arrives at last on June 16th via Atlantic Records.
