The eighties are back once again and bigger than ever, and “Loveless”—the new video from grave-wave creature popsters DRÆMINGS and PLAG Records—delivers the era’s VHScore aesthetic without a trip to the upside down.

“The whole band was raised on the fantasy movie mania that was the ‘80s,” said vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Kimi Recor. “We wanted to create a VHS wonderland to accompany a song that very much pays homage to some of our favorite ‘80s bands and soundscapes.”

For younger readers born too late to experience the age of fantasy flicks on faux-wood-paneled CRT televisions, “Loveless” evokes not only the look of the era in all its pastel-painted, static-filled VHS glory, but also the sense of wonder, escape and release that came with watching them.

Directed and edited by Joey Halter (The Railroad Bill Show), “Loveless” follows a lonely woman enduring the soul-draining tedium of every day life until escaping through mindless television to a candy-colored fantasy realm complete with wedding gowns and otherworldly beings, all driven along by an irresistible synth line.

Celebrate the arrival of Friday by tuning in and drifting away to a world of fantasy in “Loveless.”
